Success

It's funny how one word can have so many different definitions.

In my previous life (the one that didn't include Delaney), success was measured in varied ways. There were the big successes like finishing up my masters, buying our home, building a fence. There were also the little successes, like beating my previous 5k time, my students mastering a concept, or kicking Steve's butt on the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disneyland (which I do frequently).

But today, the definition of success took on a whole new meaning. Today I conquered Winco with Delaney by my side. Actually, she was strapped to my body thanks to the Sleepywrap, but you get what I mean.

By conquered I mean a full-on grocery trip with coupons, a ginormous list, and bagging my own groceries with my daughter kicking and grabbing whatever she could get her slobbery little paws on. Maybe this doesn't sound like a big deal, and maybe you're one of those uber confident mammas who always has it together and doesn't get flustered when your kiddo starts crying in public. But I'm not Super Mom yet, I'm actually an anxious perfectionist and it kills me that I'm not cool as a cucumber. It's what I'm working on. So tackling Winco was a big deal. And we did it all without a meltdown from either one of us.

good job. Karen. And you are already the perfect mom for Delaney. Love you.

Good job Karen! I rarely go out with all the kids- so you are a true champ!

Good job. I take it day by day. Some days I am confident/adventurous and some days I am not.

We went to Winco today too! It would have been nice to see you guys. When were you there? Also, I am the coupon queen and I didn't know Winco took coupons. Someone once told me that they didn't and I didn't even bother to verify!

I am not sure if you are allowed to be in Winco without a crying kid, or a toddler throwing your food out of the cart, or a 6 year old obnoxiously jumping around getting in everyone's way. Oh wait maybe that is just when we are in Winco.

A successful grocery shopping trip is a big accomplishment!! I had my first successful trip with both boys a few weeks ago (thanks to my sleepywrap and lots of snacks for Dylan)And don't even try to be supermom-you are the perfect mom for Delaney already :)trying to be supermom is WAY too much pressure!

I'm smiling to myself at the different things now that i do with Soren in arms that i didn't use to be able to do. You get to be ludicrously good at one-armed feats of daring.

Karen, you WILL be cool as a cucumber one day, right about the time all of your kids are out of the toddler stage... Wait for it, it will come. In the mean time, you are doing a fantastic job!
